At Zico Lighting, we recognise that effective hospitality lighting begins at the source. Beyond fixtures and layouts, the choice of light bulb plays a critical role in defining atmosphere, visual comfort, and the way materials are perceived. Our collaboration with Fettle Design at The July London Victoria demonstrates how carefully specified light sources can quietly yet powerfully enhance an interior experience.
Lighting as a Foundation for Atmosphere
Designed as the social heart of the hotel, the bar at The July London Victoria is warm, relaxed, and characterful. The interior layers eclectic artwork with parquet wooden flooring and repurposed vintage furniture, upholstered in contemporary fabrics. Each of these elements relies on sensitive lighting to reveal texture, colour, and depth without overwhelming the space.
Zico Lighting supplied the light bulbs used throughout the bar and adjoining deli, specified to deliver warm, consistent illumination with excellent colour rendering. This ensures that materials appear rich and authentic, artwork retains clarity, and skin tones are flattering, an essential consideration in social hospitality settings.
Rather than drawing attention to the light source itself, the bulbs work in harmony with the interior design, supporting the overall ambience and allowing the space to feel natural and comfortable at all times of day.
Supporting a Space That Evolves Throughout the Day
Hospitality environments rarely serve a single purpose. From morning coffee and informal meetings to evening drinks and social gatherings, the bar space needed to transition effortlessly. The light bulbs supplied by Zico Lighting were selected to maintain visual comfort across changing daylight conditions, avoiding harsh contrasts while preserving a welcoming glow as evening sets in.
Warm colour temperatures enhance the parquet flooring and highlight the patina of the repurposed furniture, while controlled brightness levels help maintain intimacy after dark. This careful balance allows the bar to feel lively yet relaxed—inviting guests to stay longer without fatigue.
Functional Clarity in the Neighbouring Deli
Adjacent to the bar, the deli provides a convenient, fast-paced offering for hotel guests and local visitors on the move. Here, lighting requirements shift subtly toward clarity and efficiency. The same high-quality bulbs ensure sufficient brightness for visibility and ease of movement, while maintaining tonal consistency with the bar to preserve a cohesive design language.
By using the same considered light source across both areas, Zico Lighting helped ensure continuity between spaces with different functions, demonstrating how bulb specification alone can support both atmosphere and practicality.
A Collaborative, Detail-Led Approach
This project reflects the importance of early collaboration between lighting suppliers and interior designers. Working closely with Fettle Design, Zico Lighting supported a lighting strategy that prioritised comfort, longevity, and visual quality, right down to the bulb specification.
When lighting is thoughtfully considered at this level, it becomes an integral part of the interior rather than an afterthought. The result at The July London Victoria is a bar and deli environment that feels effortless, welcoming, and well-balanced, enhanced through light that supports the design narrative rather than competing with it.
