Zico Lighting is honoured to have played a key role in the spectacular revival of The Georgian at Harrods, in collaboration with the internationally acclaimed teams at Lighting Design International and David Collins Studio.
Recently featured in Premier Hospitality Magazine, this prestigious project marks the return of one of London’s most storied dining spaces — restored with sensitivity, elegance, and a focus on timeless luxury.
Bringing History Back to Light
First opened in 1911, The Georgian has long held a place in the cultural and architectural heart of Harrods. Known for its refined afternoon teas and ornate interiors, the space had grown dormant in recent years. Its highly anticipated reopening called for a delicate balance of historic restoration and contemporary sophistication — and lighting was integral to achieving that harmony.
Zico Lighting was brought on board to provide high-performance, aesthetically refined lighting products that would subtly enhance the scheme without disrupting the room’s classical proportions or intricate detailing.
The Role of Zico Lighting
At the heart of the lighting scheme are Zico Lighting’s premium dimmable filament bulbs, chosen specifically for their:
- Ultra-smooth dimming capabilities, critical for creating dynamic, atmospheric shifts from day to evening service.
- Warm colour temperature, which flatters both architecture and complexion, lending a golden glow to guests and interiors alike.
- Classic filament design, which complements the room’s traditional features while offering the benefits of modern energy efficiency.
Our lamps were used throughout the space in bespoke decorative fixtures and ambient lighting points — enhancing everything from the handcrafted cornices to the marquetry panels and plush banquettes.
Collaboration in Craft
Working alongside the talented team at Lighting Design International, Zico Lighting helped translate the creative vision of David Collins Studio into a fully immersive guest experience. The lighting design layers architectural, ambient, and accent lighting to:
- Highlight architectural features such as ceiling domes, moldings, and fluted columns.
- Create an inviting and intimate dining environment, adaptable to different times of day and types of service.
- Ensure consistency and harmony across all decorative lighting elements through meticulous lamp specification and testing.
This close collaboration ensured that the lighting did more than illuminate — it shaped the very mood, rhythm, and identity of the space.
Timeless Design, Contemporary Execution
The new Georgian celebrates its Edwardian heritage through elegant proportions and period-inspired finishes, all curated through the refined lens of David Collins Studio. Soft celadon greens, pale blues, brass detailing, and velvet upholstery form the backdrop to a lighting scheme that enhances, rather than competes with, the interior architecture.
Zico Lighting’s products were selected not only for their technical excellence but for their contribution to the atmosphere of quiet luxury — a hallmark of the Harrods brand.
A Project of National Importance
Featured in Premier Hospitality Magazine, the restoration of The Georgian is more than a design success; it’s a cultural moment. This project affirms the value of preserving architectural heritage while meeting the standards of 21st-century hospitality.
We are proud to have supplied lighting solutions that contribute to:
- The sustainability of the overall project through long-lasting, low-energy LED lamps.
- The emotional experience of the guests — from the first impression to the final flicker of candle-like glow at dessert.
A Future Illuminated by Heritage
As The Georgian at Harrods opens its doors once again, it does so under a renewed light — one that honours the past, embraces the present, and sets a benchmark for the future of luxury dining environments.
Zico Lighting is proud to be part of this extraordinary collaboration and looks forward to continuing our work with design leaders across the hospitality and heritage sectors.
